Answering Your Questions About Permanent Hair Removal

Commonly Asked Questions about Laser Hair Removal

Is Laser Hair Removal Permanent?

Laser hair removal is classified by the FDA as “permanent hair reduction.” Laser hair removal will typically eliminate 85% to 95% of hair growth. The small amount of hair that remains is usually much finer, light in color and not very noticeable. If, however, a client would like to remove these remaining hairs, Associates in Electrology & Advanced Laser Therapy can easily remove these hairs with electrolysis.

How Long Does it Take to Complete the Laser Hair Removal Process?

Typically, it requires an average of 6 laser treatments to get the desired results. This can vary, however, depending on the area being treated, the color of the skin, the texture of the hair, and how well the client adheres to their treatment schedule. See photo gallery. Note: Different factors such as age, medications as well as hormonal fluctuations may play a role in the treatment progress.

How Often do I Have to Come in For a Laser Treatment?

The time between treatments varies based on the area of the body being treated. Typically, the time between laser hair removal treatments range from 8 weeks to 4 months.

Are There Any Areas That Cannot be Treated With Laser?

Laser hair removal is a fast and effective way to remove hair from almost any area of the body, however, there are some guidelines to remember. Laser is not effective for hairs that lack pigment such as white, grey, blond or red hairs. Extremely fine hair can also be difficult, since there is little pigment involved. Laser hair removal is also not permitted on the eyebrow area. In all these cases, electrolysis is recommended as an alternative.

Is Laser Hair Removal more effective than Electrolysis?

Laser hair removal is a much faster hair removal process, both in the amount of hairs that are removed in one application, as well as the amount of treatments that would be needed to completely remove the hair growth. Laser hair removal, however, is only effective on brown or black hair. It is not effective on blonde, grey, white, red or extremely fine hair growth.

Commonly Asked Questions About Electrolysis

Is Electrolysis Expensive?

When considered against a lifetime of cost for temporary methods such as waxing, threading and depilatories, the answer is no. We strive to give our clients the best electrology treatments available at an affordable price. Our objective is to meet each individual’s goals with as few treatments as possible.

Is Electrolysis Safe?

Absolutely! When performed by a skilled Electrologist, the possibility of any side effects are minimal. Once the hairs are permanently removed, there are no signs that electrolysis has been performed. The skin is left feeling softer, smoother and hair free!

Can Electrolysis be Performed on Patients Who Have Had Skin Grafting or Breast Reconstruction Due to Cancer?

Yes! We can safely remove unwanted hair on any area, including the skin grafted area/surgery site with incredible results!

I suffer with ingrown hairs. Will Electrolysis get rid of the ingrown hairs?

Absolutely! Once the hair is completely destroyed, whether by laser hair removal or electrolysis, there will be no irritation ever again!

How Long Does it Take to Complete Electrolysis Treatments?

The answer to this question varies for each individual. There are a number of factors to consider:

  • What is the underlying cause of the unwanted hair growth?
  • Ethnic Background/heredity
  • Side effect of medication
  • Normal aging process
  • Glandular/hormonal imbalance
  • Pregnancy
  • How many hair follicles require treatment and how advanced are the hairs in their growth process?

Is Electrolysis Permanent?

We have successfully treated thousands of clients for permanent hair removal using electrolysis. If the treatment schedule suggested at the initial consultation is followed, electrolysis will produce permanent results.

Is Electrolysis Painful?

In most cases, the apprehension is far worse than any discomfort which might result from a treatment. A skilled Electrologist is able to insert the tiny probe into a hair follicle with virtually no sensation to the client. The mild electrical current that follows feels like a small pinch. Most clients have told us that tweezing, threading and waxing is more uncomfortable than electrolysis.

Is Electrolysis more effective than Laser Hair Removal?

It would depend on the area of hair growth and the color and texture of the hair. Electrolysis can remove unattractive, excessive hair growth on all body areas, and is also effective on all hair types and colors. It is usually recommended for individuals who are not a good candidate for laser hair removal or on smaller areas.

Can Electrolysis be performed on someone who has been diagnosed with Diabetes?

Yes, if they receive an approval letter from their physician.

Can Electrolysis be performed on someone who has a pacemaker?
