Laser hair removal is a process of removing unwanted hair from the body by means of a beam of highly concentrated light. The laser is applied by compressing a hand piece against the skin in the area of the hair growth. Once applied, the laser pulses for a fraction of a second, just long enough to heat up the hair and destroy the follicles ability to produce another hair. Laser light targets the brown and black pigment (melanin) that is present in a hair. Therefore, laser hair removal is very effective in treating brown and black hairs. It has the added advantage of treating large areas very quickly and producing “permanent hair reduction.”
Researchers began experimenting with laser hair removal in the 1980's. While this method was made available to consumers beginning around 1995, the early technology was limited in many ways. Over the last few years, laser technology has made significant advancements and there are a large number of machines on the market. Not all laser machines, however, are equal in their effectiveness in treating unwanted hair. We have chosen a state-of-the-art system specially designed to remove unwanted hair faster, with less discomfort and more reliably than other methods. We use the LightSheer laser, which is regarded as “the world’s most advanced” and the “gold-standard” laser for hair removal. It is approved by the FDA for treating all skin types and it allows us to treat from the lightest to the darkest skin on both men and women. We offer you the best in laser hair removal in Rhode Island, Massachusetts and Providence!
ANSWERS TO COMMONLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Is laser hair removal permanent?
Laser hair removal is classified by the FDA as “Permanent Hair Reduction”. What this means is that laser hair removal treatments will typically eliminate 85% to 95% of hair growth. Most people are thrilled with this result. The small amount of hair that remains is usually much finer and not very noticeable. If, however, a client would like to remove these few remaining hairs, they can be permanently removed very easily with electrolysis
How long does it take to complete treatment?
Typically, it takes 4 to 6 treatments to get the desired results. This can vary, however, depending on the area being treated, the color or the skin, the texture of the hair, and how well the client adheres to their treatment schedule.
How often do I have to come in for a treatment?
The time between treatments varies based on the area of the body being treated. Typically, the time between treatments ranges from 4 to 8 weeks.
Is laser hair removal painful?
Most clients find that any discomfort from the procedure is tolerable. However, if a large area or an area of dense hair growth is being treated, a topical anesthetic can be used to make the treatment virtually pain free.
Is it expensive?
We strive to give our clients the best treatments available at an affordable price. Our fees vary based on the area that is being treated. Call for a free consultation and we will be happy to discuss your personal treatment schedule.
Are there any areas that cannot be treated with laser?
Laser hair removal is a wonderful way to remove hair from almost any area, however, there are some guidelines to remember. Because the laser beam is attracted to pigment, you can not treat hair such as white, grey, blond or red. Extremely fine hair is also difficult, since there is very little pigment involved. Laser hair removal is also not permitted on the eyebrow area. In these cases, electrolysis is the best treatment for permanent hair removal.
